Construction Plant Competence Scheme - A40 Slinger Signaller

The purpose of our CPCS A40 Slinger Signaller training is to ensure you or your employee has the skills, knowledge and understanding to enable them to carry out slinging and signalling duties in the movement of loads with lifting equipment.

The course and assessment covers:

  • The nature of the sector of industry and the role and responsibilities of a plant operator;
  • Explaining the purpose of differing types of lifting equipment and lifting accessories, basic construction, uses and applications, characteristics and terminology;
  • Conforming with manufacturer’s requirements as per technical data, other types of information source and relevant regulations and legislation; Interpreting and extracting information on all relevant documentation;
  • Undertaking all pre-use checks on non-specialist lifting accessories and identify non-serviceable items;
  • Explaining procedures for placing non-serviceable items out-of-service; Identifying centres of gravity and estimating weights of loads;
  • Preparing the area of operation;
  • Choosing the relevant lifting accessory for a given load;
  • Explaining action required for hazards, underground and overhead services;
  • Securing various types of load to a lifting hook using the relevant lifting accessory and procedures;
  • Ensuring load balance, security and integrity;
  • Directing and guiding the movement of loads to different types of location;
  • Accurately placing loads;
  • Arranging, use and complying with communication procedures;
  • Maintaining safe working situations;
  • Carrying out out-of-service and securing procedures.

This course is run on a bi-weekly basis in Essex.
